Avon, as ‘the company for women’, is on a global mission to end domestic violence. Launched internationally in 2004, Speak Out Against Domestic Violence is our global campaign focused on education, prevention and support. Nearly 1 billion women worldwide are affected by domestic violence. It can affect anyone, regardless of race, gender or social standing, and can take many forms, not all of which are easily recognisable. That’s why Avon is committed to ending it – because it’s not just a personal issue, it’s a community one.
In support of the Speak out Against Domestic Violence campaign, locally we have been a partner of White Ribbon Australia for a number of years, and in New Zealand Shine.
Today is White Ribbon Day, a day to really focus everyone’s attention on their ongoing campaign – ‘Stand Up, speak out and act’ . The campaign is aimed at building a future free from violence and abuse and gaining support for White Ribbon’s vital prevention work in schools, workplaces and communities.
The statistics are confronting – in Australia alone, 1 in 3 women will experience physical violence after the age of 15. In New Zealand, every 5 minutes the police will attend a domestic violence incident.
This highlights that there is much work to be done, and we would like to take a moment to reflect on how the united passion of our Associates and Representatives together creates an impressive global impact on this cause. Last year, we reached a significant milestone as Avon and the Avon Foundation have contributed over $1 billion in more than 50 countries to causes that matter most to women.
On Wednesday a team from the Avon Brookvale office were proud to participate in the first ever Northern Beaches Domestic Violence Network White Ribbon walk in Manly. Wearing our white Avon T-shirts we walked along the beach front with other members of the local community to raise awareness around Domestic and Family Violence on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. It was incredibly inspiring to see so many turn out in a demonstration of support.
